A Christmas Carol
Jim Carrey voices Ebeneezer Scrooge in Disney's latest animated thrill ride, as well as the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. The trailer for this movie may mislead parents who think it is a laugh-a-minute family movie. If you are taking young kids to see it, beware its dark and scary portrayal of the ghosts.
As a piece of movie making, A Christmas Carol is fantastic - artistically done but also a loyal re-telling of Dickens' story. The ghosts are meant to be scary in order to bring home the change of heart performed by Scrooge for the happy ending. The scary scenes aren't just quick though, laced with humour or broken up with comical moments. They do on for some time, with suitably scary music attached and with real fear on the face of Scrooge as he tries to outrun the Ghost of Christmas Future.
