Dear Tresemme

Grrrr I'm really fuming at your current ad. I love your stuff, it works really well on my hair but now I feel like boycotting it.

Do you know the ad I mean? A woman with lovely, bouncy, shiny curls, similar to mine, but hers are nicer, apparently can do nothing with her hair, and looks 'like a poodle'. So she goes to a salon, where they use Tresemme products and completely straighten her hair. Which makes her feel fantastic, now she's got rid of those horrible curls.

Nothing wrong with straight hair of course, but why diss the curly hair? It was lovely! Do you really want to tell curly haired girls that the only way to be happy with your hair is to commit yourself to a lifetime of frying your hair with straighteners?

Yours sincerely

Very, very pissed off curly haired woman from Mid Wales.

There was a similar moment in 'The Women' last night. Meg Ryan's character has gorgeous curly hair, but a sign of her getting things together is when she goes and sticks it through a hair straightener. Very weird. I think, myself, I have other ways of demonstrating my nascent self-understanding than using hair products...

Sad, but I thought exactly the same!! I thought they were going to show (even shinier )curly hair, not hair GHD'ed to death.

That ad. had me shouting at the TV. 'Cos yes, some cheap shampoo/conditioner is going to miraculously make curly wurly hair shiny and straight

I've complained to the ASA on the grounds that it is misleading.

ITA with you - I thought her hair looked great! Curly people should embrace their curls not be made to feel like they have to straighten it all day every day. I'd loveto have some body n my limp locks.

I love wavy hair and curly hair. Straight hair suits those that have it naturally but just because it's 'in' doesnt mean it suits everyone. It certainly doesnt suit me anyway...

I have had my hair ear-height for a while but due to not having had it cut for a year or so it's shoulder length. My hair has a mind of its own and so I just leave it be. But I like it as it is and "The Head" commented on how lovely it looked the other day
I said it was because I hadnt had it cut in a year and hadnt had time to brush it that morning (true) which sort of ruined the compliment a bit

sparkly clean nose
I shouted and swore at it as well!! As if curly hair makes one mentally deficient or summat, or something to be pitied...grrrrr

I *hate* going to the hairdressers and one I tried on my sister's recommendation made me feel like shite. They straightened my hair and all of the staff were exclaiming how much better, how much more sophisticated and glossy I looked with poker straight hair. I thought I looked at least ten years older, ill, sulky and like I should be having horrid stories written about me in The Daily Mail! Went straight home and stuck my head under the tap...

Last time I went to the hair dressers they asked if I wanted it curly. I said go for it and they did it a bit like the woman at the start of the ad. Every one said it looked great, apart from my d(?)h who said he thought I'd forgotten to brush it that morning!

Dh and I have said very similar things about that advert.

Take heart, Golightly-upon watching it for the first time, my dh said "She looked a lot bloody better before she used the shampoo!"

And he has fab taste-he married me and everything 8)

Thank you ladies - I'm glad I'm not alone in my righteous indignation!

I actually may write a proper letter to them, and I would like their next advert to be something along the lines of 'curly is so cool'.

I finally saw this advert, and I'm not surprised that you are so cross.

Ok, her hair is a bit... large, and it looks like it could do with a good conditioning treatment and a cut to give it a better shape, but there are plenty of products out there which can 'tame' curly hair and remove the frizz without removing the curl.

Perhaps we should do an alternative voiceover for the advert to put on YouTube, something about going to a stylist with hair which is unmanageable because it's in poor condition and how by using Tresemme you can still ruin the condition even more by blow drying it to within an inch of its life, so that whilst it looks lovely and soft and shiny, it's actually a mass of nasty split ends which will eventually result in a Britney-style drastic 'shave it all off' job...
